The Gates Of Hell

THE GATES OF HELL
AND THE WEATHER FORCAST

It's supposed to be 101 degrees today. Makes me think of The Gates Of Hell. This casting is in the Rodin Sculpture Garden at Stanford. It's an amazing work and you'll notice some new detail every time you come back. I made the mistake of meeting a date there once...can you guess the relationship never worked? Bad ju-ju. But I digress.......I know 101 degrees isn't a big deal for some parts of the country but for the San Francisco Bay Area we wimp out in these temps. Central air conditioning is not a standard here. There are thousands without electricity since last night so not even fans for them. Whine...whine...whine from the wimp...wimp...wimp.

Reminds me of a two-week business trip I made to San Francisco back in the early seventies. I stayed at some fancy but old hotel downtown close to the Bechtel Corp. which is the firm I was working for at the time. For several days during my visit the area was experiencing a heat wave and I could not believe that there was not one air conditioner in that whole hotel.

That was when I learned that there is no air conditioning in San Fran!

The way the climate seems to be changing, an air conditioner might be a good investment. Then, the electric bill goes up, up, up. You can't win. But, we couldn't live without air conditioning here in north Arkansas.

Meeting someone at the Gates of Hell sounds a like an idea for an ex, not a possible love. "I'll see you at the Gates of Hell! Bwahaha!"

It hit the high 90's here this weekend and, similar to San Fran, central air is almost unheard of. A real luxury. Thank goodness we bought a window A/C unit a few weeks back. It's great for the bedroom but without electricty, well, I think we'd be hooped!

I'm whining right along with you. We hit 98 degrees today. Luckily one of my friends rented an air conditioned room with a pool and invited us over. We were invited to spend the night with them, but with school and day camp tomorrow it won't work. Sigh...

whine, whine, whine too!

Of course, if most people DID have central air then energy consumption in Cali would be even higher and there would be even more, and longer rolling blackouts.

Oh wait. I thought those rolling blackouts were all Gray Davis' thought and by getting rid of him you guys cured all of your energy problems? *sarcasm*

I agree with Chelle. The "Gates of Hell" sounds like a place I'd meet my enemy.

Hi Saz: You deserve to whine...it just doesn't seem right to have a temp of 101 in San Francisco. When I first moved to North Carolina I couldn't imagine how people lived here in the old days without air conditioning. I can't watch any of the old classics, such as "Gone With The Wind" without wondering how they survived in those clothes !!

Hey Saz,
Fun post! But don't be too hard on yourself. After all, you live pretty close to the whine-country.
Have a super week!

Was recently at Musée Rodin in Paris, and in the garden they have the Gates of Hell. I could never manage to take a decent picture as it was too crowded!
Great photo. Post more.
I'm going to send you an invitation to flickr. You look like you're just ripe for it ;)
